Dei quattro Vangeli, o piuttosto dei quattro libri dello stesso Vangelo, il più elevato e più sublime è quello di san Giovanni Apostolo, il quale, paragonato, non ingiustamente e in un senso spirituale, all'aquila, sorpassò col suo racconto gli altri tre; e nella sua elevazione, volle sollevare anche i nostri cuori. Difatti gli altri tre Evangelisti sembrano camminare sulla terra col Signore, considerandolo come uomo, e ci dicono poco della sua divinità: questo invece quasi gli rincrescesse di vivere sulla terra, elevò talmente la voce che, come appare dal principio stesso del suo scritto, si sollevò non solo al disopra della terra, dell'atmosfera, e degli astri, ma ancora al disopra di tutto l'esercito degli Angeli e di tutte le Potenze invisibili stabilite da Dio, giungendo a colui che ha fatto tutte le cose, dicendo: «Nel principio era il Verbo, e il Verbo era presso Dio, anzi il Verbo era Dio» Joann. 1,1.

In Creta il natale di san Tito, il quale, ordinato Vescovo dei Cretési dall'Apostolo Pàolo, dopo aver fedelissimamente adempito il ministero della predicazione, chiuse santamente la vita e fu sepolto in quella stessa chiesa, ove dal beato Apostolo era stato costituito degno ministro. La sua festa tuttavia si celebra il sei Febbraio.
A Roma i santi Martiri Prisco Prete, Priscilliàno Chierico, e Benedétta, donna religiosa, i quali compirono con la spada il martirio al tempo dell'empissimo Giuliano.

January 4th 2026, the 15th day of the Moon, were born into the better life:

In Crete, holy Titus, whom the Apostle Paul ordained Bishop for the Cretans. When he had faithfully brought to an end (about the year 105), his work of preaching, he obtained a blessed death, and was buried in that church whereof the blessed Apostle had appointed him a worthy minister. His feast is kept upon the 6th day of the month of February.
At Rome, the holy martyrs the priest Priscus, the clerk Priscillian, and the devout woman Benedicta, who won martyrdom by the sword in the time of the wicked Emperor Julian (the Apostate).
Likewise at Rome, the blessed martyr Dafrosa, wife of the holy martyr Flavian (mother of St Bibiana). After the execution of her husband she was first sentenced to exile, and then put to death under the aforesaid Emperor Julian.
At Bologna, the holy martyrs Hermes, Aggaeus, and Caius, who suffered under the Emperor Maximian.
At Adrumetum, in Africa, the holy martyr Mavillus, whom the cruel President Scapula condemned to the wild beasts in the persecution under the Emperor Severus, and who thus received the crown of martyrdom.
Likewise in Africa, the illustrious martyrs Aquilinus, Geminus, Eugenius, Marcian, Quintus, Theodotus, and Tryphon (about end of fifth century).
At Langres, holy Gregory, bishop of that see, famous for miracles (in the year 539).
