Pulchre quidam portam clausam, per quam solus Dóminus Deus Israël ingréditur, et dux cui porta clausa est, Maríam Vírginem intéllegunt, quæ et ante partum et post partum virgo permánsit. Dagli Atti degli Apostoli.
Atti 10:1-8
1 C'era in Cesarea un uomo, chiamato Cornelio, centurione della coorte detta Italica,
2 Pio e timorato di Dio, come tutta la sua casa, il quale faceva molte elemosine alla gente, e pregava sempre Dio.
3 Egli vide chiaro in una visione verso le tre pomeridiane venirgli un Angelo di Dio e dirgli: Cornelio.
4 Ed egli, fissandolo tutto spaventato, disse: Che è, Signore ? E quello rispose: Le tue preghiere e le tue elemosine sono salite come un ricordo alla presenza di Dio.
5 E adesso spedisci qualcuno a Joppe a chiamare certo Simone, soprannominato Pietro:
6 Egli è ospite di un tal Simone cuoiaio, che ha la casa vicino al mare: egli ti dirà ciò che tu devi fare.
7 E partitosi l'Angelo che gli parlava, chiamò due dei suoi domestici e un soldato che temeva il Signore, di quelli addetti al suo particolare servizio.
8 E dopo aver raccontata loro ogni cosa, li spedì a Joppe.
℣. E tu, o Signore, abbi pietà di noi.
℟. Grazie a Dio.

℟. Cristo risuscitato da morte, non muore più, la morte non avrà più dominio su lui: infatti se egli è morto per il peccato, è morto una volta soltanto:

Atti 10:9-17
9 Il giorno seguente, mentre quelli erano in viaggio e s'avvicinavano alla città, Pietro salì sul terrazzo, verso mezzodì, per pregare.
10 E sentendo fame, gli venne voglia di prender cibo. Mentre glielo apparecchiavano, fu rapito in estasi:
11 E vide il cielo aprirsi e venir giù un certo arnese, come un gran lenzuolo, che dai quattro lati veniva calato verso terra,
12 Contenente ogni sorta di quadrupedi e rettili della terra, e uccelli dell'aria.
13 E gli giunse questa voce: Su, Pietro, uccidi e mangia.
14 Ma Pietro rispose: Non sia mai, o Signore, perché non ho mai mangiato niente di profano e di impuro.
15 E di nuovo la voce a lui per la seconda volta: Non dir profano quello che Dio ha purificato.
16 E questo avvenne tre volte: e subito l'arnese fu ritirato in cielo.
17 E mentre Pietro se ne stava incerto dentro di sé sul significato della visione avuta, ecco che gli uomini, mandati da Cornelio in cerca della casa di Simone, arrivarono alla porta.

34 Allora Pietro cominciò a dire: Veramente vedo che Dio non fa distinzione di persone,
35 Ma chi lo teme e pratica la giustizia, a qualunque nazione appartenga, gli è accetto.
36 Egli ha mandato il suo messaggio ai figli d'Israele, annunziando la pace per Gesù Cristo: (il quale è il Signore di tutti).
37 Voi sapete quello che è avvenuto per tutta la Giudea: cominciando dalla Galilea dopo il battesimo predicato da Giovanni,
38 Come Dio unse di Spirito Santo e di potenza Gesù di Nazaret, che visse facendo del bene e risanando tutti gli oppressi dal diavolo, perché Dio era con lui.
39 E noi siamo testimoni di tutte le cose che egli fece nel paese dei Giudei e in Gerusalemme, e che essi uccisero sospendendolo a un legno.
40 Iddio però lo risuscitò il terzo giorno e fece che si rendesse visibile,
41 Non a tutto il popolo, ma ai testimoni preordinati da Dio: a noi che abbiamo mangiato e bevuto con lui dopo che risuscitò da morte.

Martyrology {anticipated}
April 19th 2026, the 2nd day of the Moon, were born into the better life:

At Canterbury, in England, the holy martyr Elphege, Bishop of that see. [He had been Bishop of Winchester. He died in the year 1012.]
At Corinth, the holy martyr Timon, one of the seven first Deacons. He first dwelt as a teacher at Berea, and thence came, spreading the word of God as far as Corinth there he is said to have been cast into the fire by the Jews and Greeks, but remained unharmed, and was crucified. [He was successively Bishop of Tyre and of Bostra. He preached in Berea, Corinth, the island of Cyprus where he prepared the way for St. Barnabas, Phoenicia, and Arabia.]
At Malathia, in Armenia, the holy martyrs Hermogenes, Caius, Expeditus, Aristonicus, Rufus, and Galata, who were all crowned upon one and the same day.
At Cancavella, in Catalonia, the holy martyr Vincent, [in the year 291.]

Among the early Bishops of the church of Florence, St. Zenobius, the 5th of that see, is celebrated. He was elected about the year 376 and ministered till the year 407. He buried his sub-deacon St. Crescent with his own hands. St. Crescent is mentioned by St Ambrose.]
