Noi certo sappiamo, dilettissimi, che questo precetto si riferisce in modo tutto speciale a noi, perché non è dubbio che il giorno annunziato, sebbene occulto, sia vicino.

Arrestato dal Proconsole Egèa, fu prima chiuso in prigione, quindi gravissimamente flagellato, e da ultimo appeso in croce, sulla quale sopravvisse due giorni istruendo il popolo; e avendo pregato il Signore di non permettere che egli fosse deposto dalla croce, fu circondato da un grande splendore celeste, e, cessato poi tale splendore, rese lo spirito.
