10 Un fiume di fuoco usciva rapido dalla sua faccia; migliaia di migliaia lo servivano e mille milioni lo assistevano. Si tenne il giudizio, e furono aperti i libri.
11 Io stavo osservando a motivo della voce delle grandi parole che spacciava quel corno; e vidi che la bestia era stata uccisa, il suo corpo distrutto e gettato ad ardere nel fuoco.

Che il beato Michele Arcangelo sia apparso sovente agli uomini, lo provano e l'autorità dei sacri libri e l'antica tradizione dei Santi. Per cui la memoria di questo fatto si celebra in molti luoghi. Come altra volta la sinagoga dei Giudei, così adesso la Chiesa di Dio lo venera suo custode e patrono. Una celebre apparizione di Michele Arcangelo avvenne sotto il sommo Pontefice Gelasio I, nella Puglia, sulla vetta del monte Gargano, ai piedi del quale è situata la città di Siponto.

Difatti accadde che il toro d'un certo Gargano allontanatosi dalla mandria del bestiame, dopo molte ricerche si ritrovò impigliato all'ingresso d'una spelonca. Uno dei ricercatori avendo scoccata una freccia per trafiggerlo, la freccia, rivoltatasi, tornò a chi l'aveva lanciata. La qual cosa riempì di tanto terrore i presenti e poi gli altri, che, non osando più alcuno accostarsi a quella spelonca, i Sipontini consultano il vescovo; il quale rispose che occorreva interrogare il Signore, ed indisse tre giorni di digiuno e di preghiere.

Dopo i tre giorni, l'Arcangelo Michele avvertì il vescovo che quel luogo era sotto la sua protezione, e con quel fatto aveva voluto manifestare che si rendesse ivi un culto a Dio in memoria di lui e degli Angeli. Quindi il vescovo si portò col popolo a detta spelonca. E al vederla disposta in forma di chiesa, cominciarono a celebrarvi i divini uffici: e questo luogo fu poi illustrato da molti miracoli. Non molto dopo, il Papa Bonifacio dedicò in Roma la chiesa di san Michele sulla sommità prospiciente il circo, il 29 Settembre: giorno nel quale la Chiesa celebra ancora la memoria di tutti gli Angeli. Ma quest'oggi è consacrato all'apparizione di Michele Arcangelo.

Commento su Matteo, can. 18
Il Signore ci insegna, che solo riprendendo la natura di bambini entreremo nel regno dei cieli: cioè distruggendo in noi colla semplicità del bambino i vizi dei corpi e delle anime nostre. Egli poi chiama bambini tutti quelli che credono per la fede alla sua parola. I bambini infatti obbediscono al padre, amano la madre, non sanno voler male al prossimo, non si curano affatto delle ricchezze; non insolentiscono, non odiano, non mentiscono, credono a ciò che si dice, e quanto odono lo ritengono per vero. Si deve dunque tornare alla semplicità dei bambini; perché, ritornati così, portiamo in noi l'immagine dell'umiltà del Signore.
℣. E tu, o Signore, abbi pietà di noi.
℟. Grazie a Dio.

℟. Davanti ai Gentili non abbiate paura; ma voi adorate nei vostri cuori e temete il Signore;

E che di più pericoloso per il mondo, che il non aver ricevuto Cristo? E perciò ha detto essere necessario che vi siano degli scandali; perché, per realizzare il mistero che ci deve rendere la vita eterna, la umiliazione della passione dev'essere completa in lui.

«Guardatevi dal disprezzare alcuno di questi piccini che credono in me». A quelli principalmente che veramente hanno creduto nel Signore, egli ha imposto il vincolo strettissimo del mutuo amore. Gli Angeli dei piccini infatti vedono Dio ogni giorno: perché il Figlio dell'uomo è venuto a salvare ciò ch'era perduto. Così il Figlio dell'uomo salva, gli Angeli vedono Dio, e gli Angeli dei piccini presiedono alle preghiere dei fedeli. Che gli Angeli presiedano è dottrina certissima. Gli Angeli dunque offrono ogni giorno a Dio le preghiere dei piccini salvati da Cristo. Quindi è pericoloso disprezzare colui, i cui desideri e domande sono rapportate a Dio eterno ed invisibile mediante l'ambito ministero degli Angeli, che formano la sua corte.

That the blessed Archangel Michael hath oftentimes been seen of men is attested on the authority of the Holy Bible, and also by the ancient traditions of the Saints. But during the papacy of Gelasius I. the summit of Mount Gargano in Apulia, at whose foot lieth the town of Siponto, was the scene of an extraordinary appearance of this same Archangel Michael.

Then the Bishop and the citizens made haste and came to the cavern and when they found that the form thereof was somewhat after the fashion of a Church, they began to perform the public worship of God therein which sanctuary hath been glorified with many miracles. It was not long after these things that Pope Boniface IV. hallowed the Church of St. Michael on Hadrian's Mole at Rome, on the 29th day of September, on the which day the Church also holdeth in remembrance All Angels. But this present day is hallowed in remembrance of the manifestation of the Archangel Michael.

Unless ye become as little children,” saith the Lord, “ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven,” that is, unless by the uprooting of bodily and mental depravity, we bring our souls to the innocency of childhood. But He giveth the name of children to all such as believe by the hearing of faith. Children follow their father, love their mother, know not how to wish evil to their neighbours, are not careful for earthly riches they insult not, they hate not, they lie not, they believe what they are told, and take for truth what they hear. Us then it behoveth to return to the simpleness of little children, for when we are well rooted therein, we shall so far bear about in ourselves an image of the sublime simpleness of the Lord Jesus.

For the Son of Man is come to save that which was lost.« From these words we see, first, that the Son of Man saveth secondly, that the Angels do see God and thirdly, that the Angels of these little ones have the wardship over the prayers of the faithful. That the Angels have this wardship is taught us absolutely. The Angels therefore do every day offer to God the prayers which they which are saved do make to Him in the Name of Christ. Therefore it is dangerous for a man to despise them, seeing that these are they by whose watchful service and ministry, his wishes and requests are presented before the throne of the eternal and unseen God.

A Costantinòpoli la Traslazione dei santi Andréa Apostolo e Luca Evangelista dall'Acàia, e di san Timòteo, uno dei discepoli del beato Pàolo Apostolo, da Efeso. Il corpo di sant'Andréa, dopo è onorato, e dal suo sepolcro continuamente scaturisce un liquido, che vale a sanare le infermità.
Così pure a Roma la Traslazione di san Girolamo Prete, Confessore e Dottore della Chiesa, da Betlémme di Giuda alla Basilica di santa Maria Maggiore.

At Nazianzus, in Cappadocia, the blessed Gregory, Archbishop of Constantinople, who on account of his wonderful teaching of the things of God is surnamed the Theologian, who set up again the Catholic faith at Constantinople when it had fallen, and stilled the swelling waves of heresy.
At Rome, the holy Hermes, of whom the Apostle Paul maketh mention in his Epistle to the Romans. He made a worthy offering of himself, and being made acceptable as a sacrifice to God, he departed hence to the kingdom of heaven, famous for good works.
In Persia, 310 holy martyrs.
At Cagli, on the Flaminian Way, suffered the holy Gerontius, Bishop of Cervia.
At Vendôme, [in the third century,] deceased, the holy Confessor Beatus. At Constantinople is commemorated the translation of the bodies of the holy Apostle Andrew, and of the holy Evangelist Luke, out of the Peloponnesos, and of that of Timothy, the disciple of the blessed Apostle Paul, out of Ephesos.
