In questo concilio furono condannati Ciro, Sergio e Pirro, che insegnavano esservi in Cristo una sola volontà ed operazione. Per questo decretò che l'elezione del clero di Ravenna sarebbe stata nulla, se non fosse stata approvata dall'autorità del Romano Pontefice.

Come ci riferisce la lettura evangelica. Gesù lui interrogò i discepoli che cosa pensassero di in mezzo a tanti pareri diversi. E san Pietro rispose: «Tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio del Dio vivente». Allora il Signore gli disse: «Beato te, o Simone, figlio di Giona, perché questo non ti è stato rivelato dalla carne o dal sangue, ma dal Padre mio che sta nei cieli. Perciò io ti dico che tu sei Pietro e su questa pietra edificherò la mia Chiesa e le porte dell'inferno non prevarranno mai contro di essa. E a te darò le chiavi del regno dei cieli, e qualunque cosa avrai legata sulla terra, sarà legata anche nei cieli, e qualun que cosa avrai sciolta sulla terra, sarà sciolta anche nei cieli». L»ordine stabilito da Gesù Cristo rimane ancora; e san Pietro, che ha conservato fino ad oggi la solidità della pietra, non abbandonò mai il governo della Chiesa di cui fu incaricato.

Nella Chiesa intera, infatti, ogni giorno Pietro dice: «Tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio del Dio vivente»; ed ogni lingua che riconosce il Signore viene istruita col magistero di tale voce. Tale fede sconfigge il diavolo e scioglie i legami di coloro che egli tiene prigionieri. Essa fa entrare nel cielo coloro che ha strappato alla terra e le porte dell'inferno non possono prevalere contro di essa. È stata infatti per potenza divina munita di una tale saldezza che mai la potrà corrompere la malvagità degli eretici né la potrà superare la perfidia dei pagani. Con tali disposizioni dunque, dilettissimi, e con razionale ossequio si celebri la festività odierna: affinché nell'umiltà della mia persona venga riconosciuto e onoralo colui, nel quale continua la cura che tutti i pastori hanno nella custodia delle pecore loro affidate e la cui dignità non viene meno per l'indegnità dell'erede.

Mentre dunque rivolgiamo le nostre esortazioni all'orecchio della vostra santità, pensate che vi parli colui, del quale facciamo le veci: sia perché vi esortiamo con lo stesso suo affetto, sia perché nient'altro predichiamo a voi se non quello che egli ha insegnato, scongiurandovi a vivere una vita casta e sobria e timorata di Dio, avendo cinto i fianchi del vostro spirito. Come dice l'Apostolo, siete mia gioia e mia corona, se la vostra fede, che dall'inizio del Vangelo è stata predicata in tutto il mondo, rimarrà nell'amore e nella santità. Leo II was a Sicilian. He was learned in sacred and worldly letters in the Greek and Latin tongues, and was moreover an excellent musician. He re-arranged and improved the music of the sacred hymns and Psalms used in the Church. He approved the acts of, the sixth general Council, which was held at Constantinople, under the Presidency of the Legates of the Apostolic See, in the presence of the Emperor Constantine the Bearded, the Patriarchs of Constantinople and Antioch, and one hundred and seventy Bishops. Leo also translated the decrees of the Council from Greek into Latin.

When the Lord, as we read in the Gospel, asked his disciples who did men, amid their diverse speculations, believe him the Son of Man to be, blessed Peter answered and said: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And the Lord answered and said unto him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father, which is in heaven: and I say also unto thee: That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; and I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. But the dispensation of truth perdures, and blessed Peter, persevering in the strength of the rock which he hath received, hath not relinquished the position he assumed at the helm of the Church.

1st for the Birth-day of SS. Peter and Paul
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints and no cruelty can trample out that Religion which was founded in the mysterious Sacrifice of the Cross of Christ. Under persecution the Church waneth not, but waxeth. And the Lord's field is ever clothed with a nobler harvest, when the grains of His wheat abide not alone, but fall into the ground, and die, and bring forth fruit manifold, John xii. 24. What an increase hath sprung up from these two glorious grains of God's seed, is witnessed by the thousands of blessed martyrs who have rivalled the triumph of the Apostles, who gird this our city with their red and world famous armies, and have set upon her head a crown of many kingly jewels.
Up their united succour, dearly beloved brethren, which hath been given unto us by God as an example of patience and a confirmation of faith, will be the cause of our joy on the days of the commemoration of all the Saints, but amid all their glory, doth excel in glory the glory of their spiritual fathers, whom the grace of God exalted to such a pitch of eminence among all the members of the Church, that they seem as it were the two eyes of that body whereof Christ is the Head. The worthy deed and loyal courage of either of them are such as to baffle all power of man's speech worthily to express the same, nor need we draw any distinction between them. In their election they were peers, in their work fellows, and in their end equals.
But, as our own experience hath taught us, and that of our forefathers hath proved, we believe and trust that, amid all the toils whereby in this life we strive towards the obtaining of God's mercy, we shall ever be holpen by the prayers of these our special Patrons, and that when our own sins thrust us down, the good deeds of the Apostles may pull us up. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, hath but one power, as He hath one Divine nature, for ever and ever. Amen.

In the county of Bourges, in Gaul, the holy martyr Laurian, Bishop of Seville, in Spain, [in the year 544,] whose head has been taken thither.

The names of his companions were Miggine, Luciate, and Sanae.]
At Cyrene, in Libya, the holy Confessor Theodorus, Bishop [of that see,] who in the persecution under Diocletian was hided with scourges loaded with lead, under the President Dignian, and had his tongue cut out, but in the end died in peace.
