Dio ineffabile, «le cui vie sono misericordia e verità» Ps. 24,10, la cui volontà è onnipotente, «e la cui sapienza va da un capo all'altro con fortezza, e dispone ogni cosa con dolcezza» Sap. 8,15, avendo previsto da tutta l'eternità la rovina lacrimevolissima di tutto il genere umano che sarebbe derivata dalla trasgressione di Adamo, e avendo decretato, con disegno nascosto ai secoli, di compiere, con un mistero ancor più profondo, mediante l'incarnazione del Verbo, l'opera primitiva della sua bontà, affinché l'uomo, spinto al peccato dall'astuzia e malizia del diavolo, non perisse contrariamente al disegno della sua misericordia, e affinché la caduta della natura nel primo Adamo fosse riparata nel secondo con miglior fortuna; fin da principio e prima di tutti i secoli scelse e preordinò al suo Figlio una Madre, nella quale incarnatosi, sarebbe nato nella pienezza de' tempi, e la fece segno, a preferenza d'ogn'altra creatura, di tanto amore, da porre in lei sola, in maniera singolarissima, tutte le sue compiacenze.

Questa innocenza originale dell'augusta Vergine in si perfetta armonia colla meravigliosa sua santità ed eminente dignità di Madre di Dio, la Chiesa cattolica, la quale, ammaestrata sempre dallo Spirito Santo è la colonna e il sostegno della verità, l'ha ritenuta sempre come dottrina divinamente rivelata, e compresa nel deposito della rivelazione celeste, e come tale non cessò mai di spiegare, proporre e favorite sempre più di giorno in giorno con ogni sorta di ragioni e di splendidi atti. Che dice quest'Angelo beato mandato alla Vergine tutta pura? o come le trasmette questo faustissimo annunzio? «Salve, piena di grazia; il Signore è con te» Luc. 1,28. Messaggero di gioia, egli comincia a parlarle di gioia. Egli conosceva infatti e sapeva benissimo, che quel suo messaggio annunziava la gioia a tutti gli uomini e insieme a tutte le creature, e a tutti il sollievo da ogni dolore; egli conosceva, che la notizia di questo divino mistero avrebbe rischiarato il mondo; conosceva, che avrebbe dissipato le tenebre dell'errare; conosceva, che avrebbe abbattuta la forza della corruzione; conosceva, che avrebbe tolta la vittoria all'inferno; conosceva, che avrebbe fatta risplendere la salvezza all'uomo caduto, che già da tanto tempo era oppresso dal giogo di questi mali, dal momento cioè che fu espulso dal paradiso di delizie, ed esiliato da quel felice soggiorno. Perciò dalla gioia esordisce la sua ambasciata; perciò premette al suo dire voci di gioia; perciò la gioia precede il fausto annunzio, siccome quello che doveva far gioire tutti i credenti.

Per questo infatti anche l'Angelo annunzia prima di tutto la gioia, perché non ignora l'esito felice della sua ambasciata, e sa benissimo che il colloquio ch'egli ha, riuscirà certamente di gioia a tutto il mondo. E veramente qual gioia o qual contentezza si potrà trovare, che non sia di gran lunga al disotto del colloquio avuto colla beata Vergine, cagione della nostra gioia? Gioisci dunque, o madre della gioia più che celeste. Gioisci, o nutrice della gioia più sublime. Gioisci, o trono il più eccellente della gioia della nostra salvezza. Gioisci, o autrice della nostra gioia immortale. Gioisci, o soggiorno mistico della gioia ineffabile. Gioisci, o sorgente beatissima della gioia indefettibile. The Catholic Church, which, through the perpetual teaching of the Holy Ghost, is the pillar and ground of the truth, 1 Tim. iii. 15, hath always held the original innocence of this most exalted Virgin to be bound up with her wonderful holiness, and her mighty dignity of Mother of God. This doctrine she hath felt herself to hold by the gift of God, and as part of that faith once delivered from heaven unto the Saints, Jude 3, and as time hath gone on, she hath continually explained, put forth, and upheld it. On the Annunciation.
When this blessed Angel was sent to the most pure virgin what did he say? In what words did he break the happy news of Redemption? Hail, thou that art full of grace, the Lord is with thee. (Now this word Hail is in the original Chaire, which being interpreted signifieth Rejoice.) The messenger of joy in his first word biddeth her rejoice. He knew well that his message was a message of good tidings of great joy to men, Luke ii. 10, yea, to all creatures, a message of healing to all sicknesses. He knew well that his message was a message of God's light to a dark world. He knew well that it proclaimed the end of error. He knew well that it blunted the sting of death. He knew well that it broke the power of corruption. He knew well that it brought victory over hell. He knew well that it told of salvation to all the fallen children of Adam, groaning under that yoke of malediction which fell on them when they were thrust out of Eden, and banished from that happy home. Therefore, when he began to speak, he spoke in tones of rejoicing, and opened his message with sounds of gladness. Therefore made he the name of joy to herald the tidings of good, which were to be for a joy unto all people, whosoever should believe.

Martyrology {anticipated}
December 10th 2026, the 1st day of the Moon, were born into the better life:

At Rome, the holy Pope Melchiades, (who reigned three years, 7 months, and 62 days, from the year 310 till January 10, 314,) who suffered much in the persecution under the Emperor Maximian, but fell asleep in the Lord after peace had been restored to the church.
Upon the same day the holy martyrs Carpophorus the Priest, and Abundius the Deacon. In the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian they were first most cruelly cudgelled and recommitted to prison, where they were denied food and drink, then they were racked, and suffered long imprisonment, and lastly were beheaded, (in the year 303.)
At Merida, (in Estramadura,) in Spain, (in the same year,) under the Emperor Maximian, the holy Virgin and martyr Eulalia, at the age of twelve years. The President Dacian commanded her to be put to many tortures for confessing Christ at last she was hung upon the rack, and lacerated with hooks and, burning torches being put to her sides, some of the flame and smoke went down her throat and she gave up the ghost.
Likewise at Merida, the holy Virgin and martyr Julia, who was a Companion of the blessed Eulalia, and the only one who clave unto her as she went to suffer.
At Alexandria, under the Emperor Gallerius Maximian, the holy martyrs Mennas, Hermogenes, and Eugraphus.
At Lentini, in Sicily, the holy soldiers, Mercury and his Companions, all martyrs, who were slain with the sword in the time of the Emperor Licinius, under the President Tertyllus.
At Ancyra, in Galatia, the holy martyr Gemellus, who, after most grievous torments under the Emperor Julian the Apostate, achieved martyrdom by the death of the cross.

57:2 Se davvero voi parlate di giustizia, * giudicate con rettitudine, o figli degli uomini.

57:4 I peccatori hanno fuorviato sin dal seno materno, hanno deviato sin dalla nascita: * hanno detto falsità.
57:5 Il loro furore è simile a quello di un serpente: * a quello di un'aspide sorda, che si tura le orecchie.
57:6 E non ode la voce dell'incantatore: * e del mago abile nell'ammaliare.
57:7 Dio stritolerà loro i denti in bocca: * il Signore spezzerà le mascelle dei leoni.
57:8 Si ridurranno al nulla come acqua che scorre; * egli tien teso il suo arco, fino a che siano abbattuti.
57:9 Come cera che si fonde saranno distrutti: * cadde sopra di essi il fuoco, e non videro più il sole.
57:10 Prima che le vostre spine si sentano fatte un roveto, * così [Dio] nel suo sdegno li divorerà quasi ancora vivi.
57:11 Il giusto si rallegrerà nel vedere la vendetta; * laverà le sue mani nel sangue del peccatore:
57:12 E l'uomo dirà: C'è davvero una ricompensa per il giusto: * c'è davvero un Dio che giudica gli uomini sulla terra.

Questa porta rimarrà chiusa e non si aprirà, ed uomo non passerà per essa, perché il Signore Dio d'Israele è entrato per essa ed essa resterà chiusa per il principe. Il principe stesso sederà su di essa.
